Candytopia - The Sweetest Playground
Over the summer of 2019 I had a Candytopia experience in Houston, Texas.
It is a made for Instagram (not officially) traveling exhibition visiting various cities across the United States. Upon arrival attendees are encouraged to download the Candytopia app that is linked to special animated filters/photography stations in each room. Candytopia is one of those pop-up adventures Candyland style as the name suggests with custom designed themes for every room such as a candy playground with swing sets; art museum; underwater adventure; musical concert; and a far-out psychedelic spin, just to name a few. My favorite is the Giant Marshmallow Pit!! Oh, you weren’t able to get to the gym? No worries, hop in the marshmallow pit and feel the spongy white marshmallows challenge you as you wade through the pit from one end to another. Marshmallows here are the new resistance bands. A cool workout that you’ll never see in any gym. The marshmallows are not edible, but lots of fun to toss around.
Each room is a confectioner’s fantasy filled with the most astonishing sculptures made from all kinds of candy: jelly beans, candy dog bones, liquorice, red hots, candy corn, taffy, and so much more. We’re talking candy art at its most imaginative. You are also welcome to free candy in every room.
Candytopia:
“What if an eccentric chocolatier and a daredevil pop star had a whirlwind romance, got married while skydiving, and had a glamorous, glittering love child who grew up to rule a small nation? Welcome to Candytopia, where colossal candyfloss constructions meld with a tantalizing taffy twistedness!
Explore our sprawling sanctuary of confectionary bliss, tastefully curated by Hollywood Candy Queen Jackie Sorkin, realized by master fabricator Zac Hartog, and brought to life by life-long retailer, John Goodman.”
